Scholar Support

The following are various sources of support provided by Cornell IMSD:

Summer Research Rotation (SRR)

Prior to their first semester, first-year IMSD Scholars arrive at Cornell during the summer to carry out an 8 week, closely mentored research rotation in the laboratory of a faculty member chosen with their graduate program director.

With the SRR, IMSD scholars will be able to make a smooth transition to Cornell (finding housing, exploring facilities, etc.), as well as take part in opportunities for additional training to strengthen specific skills and gain valuable exposure to the program’s research opportunities.

IMSD SRR Scholars’ benefits include:

  • Summer salary to cover housing and expenses
  • Weekly meetings consisting of faculty research lectures, professional development workshops, and panel discussions.
  • IMSD Scholars are also welcome and encouraged to present research posters during the various summer symposiums on campus.

Financial Support:

Scholars in years 1-2 or their graduate studyare supported by The IMSD award. In subsequent years, students are supported in full through their labs and graduate programs.

Tuition, Fees, and Travel Funds:

IMSD Scholars are eligible for an annual educational allowance for travel to scientific meetings, workshops, and conferences.

Travel funds can be used for the following:

  • Conferences and conference related expenses
  • Courses/workshops

Please note: To apply, please complete the Travel Application at least 30 days before the conference or workshop. Additionally, students should consult with their program or PI before making any plans (as you would for any research-related travel).
